Our goal is to have all of our adopted
pets go to their new homes as healthy as possible. Our vets provide a
full array of preventive care for our shelter animals when they first
arrive and continue caring for them while they are living at our shelter.
Sick or injured pets are treated to the best of our abilities, often
using funds provided through donations to Gabriel's
Fund. Gabriel's Fund donations
allow us to provide tests, heartworm treatments, xrays, surgeries, and
more for those pets in need-- things we normally could not afford.
Our staff is also here to provide helpful
information and answer any questions about caring for your new pet, before
and after you take your pet home. We send
each pet home with information to help you with caring for, training,
and addressing common behavioral issues. You'll also receive a DVD-- Pets
Incredible Completely Cats or Complete
Dog Training--
which are both excellent tools to help you with your new pet.
The adoption fee is $120 and the
following care has been provided:
• Distemper vaccines*
• Rabies vaccine*
• Bordetella vaccine
• Dewormed with Drontal (a dewormer that kills all intestinal
worms)
• All are spayed or neutered, including puppies
• Microchip
• Heartworm test if 6 months or older. If positive for heartworms,
the dog completes treatments before going home.
• All dogs over 3 months old receive monthly heartworm preventative
while at our shelter
• Frontline treatment for fleas and ticks
• All of our dogs are fed Science Diet brand dog food
*Puppies not old enough to receive the full
distemper series or their first rabies vaccine may be brought back
to receive them at no additional charge
You'll also receive the following:
• A leash and collar for your dog
• An adoption packet with educational materials
• The Pets Incredible Dog Training
DVD (see below)
• Medium and large adult dogs may be fitted with The
Gentle Leader® Headcollar or the Easy
Walk™ Harness if desired
(see below)
• Some toys and a 5 lb bag of Science
Diet dog food
• AND... We'll give your dog a bath before he/she goes home!
The Pets Incredible
Dog Training DVD contains lots of helpful info that
works for any dog at any age! It's fun to watch, easy to understand,
and it covers many of the basic behavior questions people have
when they adopt a new dog. Using positive reinforcement, reward
based training the Pets Incredible program covers the following
behavior problems: House Training, Chewing, Jumping, Mouthing,
Manners and Crate Training. This DVD normally sells for $29 but
it's free with any dog adoption from our shelter!
The Gentle Leader® Headcollar and the Easy Walk™ Harness: For our medium and large size adult dogs who haven't quite mastered "heel" yet
and tend to pull on their leash, we are also offering two excellent training
products made by Premier Pet Products. While our supply lasts we can
fit and send your new dog home with either The Gentle Leader® Headcollar
or the Easy Walk™ Harness at no extra cost. Some of our dogs are
already using these products at satellites or at the shelter when going
for walks.
The Gentle Leader® Headcollar quickly controls
jumping, pulling, barking, chewing and begging.
The Easy Walk™ Harness is designed to gently
discourage your dog from pulling while walking on a leash.
