Janet
Hines, right, and Mary Alice Blew volunteering at the
KC Pet Telethon. |
Six
years ago when Janet Hines moved into her new house, her neighbors,
Jason and Amber Lutes invited her to volunteer at the Humane
Society. Janet’s first act of
volunteering was for Dog-N-Jog in 2002. After that she was hooked!
Since then, she has been volunteering at satellite pet adoptions
and various special events. This year she is once again co-chairing
the art committee for Art Unleashed.
According to Robin Rowland, Director
of Development for the HSGKC, “Janet
is a very organized person with a positive, can-do personality. This is very
helpful because sometimes events can get a little crazy. I love working with
her because I can always count on her to do what she promises to do and she’ll
do it with a smile on her face.”

Janet has adopted two dogs from shelters. Our old friend Brodie is one of them.
In fact, Brodie and Janet came back for our Pet Reunion last October and Brodie,
dressed as a bumble bee, won the costume contest. Lily,
Janet’s other dog,
is a “sassy” border collie/aussie mix that she got
from Wayside Waifs.
Volunteers find many joys when they volunteer at the Humane Society.
Janet gets “a
great deal of happiness knowing [she’s] helping provide a temporary home
for a future furkid.” When asked if she had anything she wanted to say
to fellow volunteers she replied, “You've made a wonderful
choice in helping bringing a bit of sunshine into someone's life.”
Our shelter will be closed for the
holiday weekend
Our shelter
will be closed on Friday and Saturday, July 4 & 5.
Have a fun and safe holiday weekend and our dogs and cats will
look forward to seeing you next week.

Kennedy
and his kitten friends would greatly appreciate some baby
food! |
Our new little kittens cannot eat
the crunchy food that the adults eat. Instead they eat Gerber
chicken and gravy baby food. Since we have so many little kittens
at the moment, we are in very short supply. If you can purchase
a few jars of Gerber chicken and gravy baby food to donate, our
kittens will thank you.
For
a list of other items and services we need, check out our Sit
Up and Beg Wish List.
Here is a list of the latest bunch
of volunteers: Heather & Lisa Jackson,
Susan Buckmaster, Kaylee Adams, Mariah Burris, Alischia Russell,
Deborah Waller, Jessica Miles, Anne Allen, Loren Doyle, Joanna
Hilton, Jai Desai, Morgan Johnson, Claire Ranieri and Ashley
Tinsley.
Give them a big welcome when you
see them!

the Country Club Plaza. Watch future CyberTails for more event

Have "Suds of Fun" While Volunteering
The Suds
of Fun dog-washing event is Tuesday,
July 15 at the U-Wash Puppy (75th & Nieman in
Shawnee). The do-it-yourself dog wash will cost only $5 per dog – with
all proceeds donated to the HSGKC.
We need 3-5
volunteers to
help with registration and lining up dogs from 4-8 PM.
We also
need dog-related items to fill our 50 Fun Packs given out to
the first 50 attendees. If you have 50 dog-related items to donate
let us know. Please contact Katie,
HSGKC summer intern, if you are interested in volunteering or
donating items.
Some of our adoptable dogs will
also be at the event and will require some volunteers. Contact
Jana Brunner if
you want to help with the Satellite Adoption at the event (more
info below).

Art Unleashed has been moved back
to its original date, Friday, August 22 and
will be at The Uptown Theater.
Art Unleashed is a live and silent art auction of original and
limited-edition pet-themed artwork. Tickets are $25 early or
$30 at the door. Online ticket sales begin July 22 at www.artunleashedkc.org.
If you would
like to volunteer at Art Unleashed as an art table monitor
or food butler, contact Jo.
Volunteers must be 18 years of age, able to lift items weighing
20 lbs, have an outgoing personality and be able to volunteer
from 5:15-10 pm.
Sponsorships for Art Unleashed range
from $5,000 to $250. If you know of someone who might be interested

What’s the good news?
Volunteer Christine Salyer and
her husband Paul are expecting a
baby girl!
So what’s the bad news? The baby is due right before
the Golf Classic in September.
Because Christine normally heads up the Golf Classic, she won’t
be able to swing it this year. So, this
year’s golf tournament is canceled.
However, keep working on your short game because the Golf Classic
will return next year. |
