Volunteers are an integral part of the organization’s history and mission and provide support to ensure that every animal receives the highest quality of care and compassion. The Humane Society provides its volunteers with meaningful work and the opportunity to learn and grow.
So, you want to be a volunteer?
We have many volunteer opportunities available at The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City for committed volunteers who are looking to make a difference. Our volunteers are required to attend a volunteer orientation and training.
Please note: we do not accept volunteers that are fulfilling court mandated volunteer hours or diversion hours.
HSGKC volunteers should be 16 years of age or older to volunteer. Children under the age of 16 may volunteer with the supervision of a parent or guardian.

There are many different ways you can volunteer.
Walking dogs, socializing scared kittens, cleaning and organizing and so much more.
Each time you volunteer with HSGKC you are helping us provide a better environment for the animals in our care.
Spend time with our dogs by taking them on a walk throughout our 10 acre property.
Spend your time socializing with our cats and kittens. Each time a cat is socialized it decreases their stress in the shelter.
Want to help but can’t spend time with the animals? There are many administrative tasks the team needs help with. Filing, sorting documents, creating charts and everything in between!
Have a group of people and want to complete a project? You’ve come to the right place! From gardening, to painting, to decluttering and organizing, we have projects for you and your team.
Looking for an opportunity for your team to work together and have fun? Contact our Volunteer Coordinator today to get your group signed up for a corporate volunteer day.
